2025 Unbroken Spirit Participant Application

Welcome to the Unbroken Spirit program! We are here to help you embark on a transformative journey that will unlock your potential. By filling out this application, you are taking the first step towards a life-changing experience, consisting of three separate but mutually supportive phases conducted over a 12-month period:

Phase I: Transforming Veterans Lives through Training  (5 months)

Join us online for the first phase of your Unbroken Spirit Journey. Our Founder and Executive Director, Colonel Peter Champagne, U.S. Army, Retired, will lead you and your Veteran teammates through six virtual seminars using our exclusive Unbroken Spirit Pyramid of Success™ will guide you through six virtual seminars, led by fellow Veterans. These sessions focus on strengthening your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We empower you to Believe in a brighter future, learn the necessary skills to Achieve your goals, and Succeed in creating a better life for yourself, your family, and your community.

Phase II: The Healing Power of Nature, Camaraderie and Adventure  (1 week)

Embrace the opportunity to choose from two exceptional programs in Phase II, each designed to challenge you physically and mentally and provide you with an opportunity to experience the healing power of nature alongside your teammates while strengthening bonds and supporting your individual needs:

Expedition Program. Join us in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC.  The wilderness environment serves as a catalyst for our healing, fostering camaraderie, teamwork, and challenging personal limits. Learn to harness your existing strengths, practice newly acquired skills and forge deeper connections with your Veteran peers.

Adaptive Sports Program. This program is for Veterans with adaptive sports needs. Join fellow Veterans in Park City, Utah, for six challenging, skill-building, and adventure-filled days designed to push you beyond your comfort zone while building deep camaraderie with your peers. In partnership with the National Ability Center (NAC), you’ll take part in adaptive outdoor activities that inspire confidence, strengthen resilience, and foster lasting connections. Each activity is tailored to challenge you physically, boost self-confidence, and forge enduring relationships through shared experiences.

Phase III: Learn, Lead, and Serve (6 months)

The third phase of our training focuses on building your self-confidence and sense of purpose. You will learn to lead effectively as a servant leader. Based on the principle of “Leave No One Behind,” you will participate in three additional team meetings, develop leadership skills, and be assigned a mentor to provide guidance as you work toward your goals.

Is this program right for you?
We do ask you to conduct a self-evaluation to ensure you’re ready for the program’s challenges.

Phase I

  • Dedicate 3–5 hours each week for readings, online seminars, and assignments
  • Attend all six online seminars
  • Complete and submit five homework assignments on time
  • Meet every requirement without exception — this phase will test your commitment
  • If you are not ready to put in the work and hold yourself accountable, this program is not for you

Phase II

  • Hike 25 miles over three days
  • Carry a 30–40 lb. pack in mountainous terrain over 5,000 ft elevation with significant elevation gain
  • Arrive trail-ready or commit to a serious training plan before Phase II
  • Without preparation, you will not be able to complete this phase

Phase III

  • Attend all scheduled Phase III team meetings
  • Complete follow-up assignments on time
  • Participate fully in our mentor program as a mentee
  • Continue applying the skills and mindset developed in earlier phases

  • Consistent weekly time for program activities in all phases
  • Willingness to make meaningful, lasting changes in your life
  • Dedication to personal growth and being a dependable teammate

Technology Requirements

To fully participate in the Unbroken Spirit program, all applicants must have access to reliable Wi-Fi and basic technology to support their engagement during the virtual phases of the program. Specifically:

  • Google Meet is used for virtual group meetings during Phase I and Phase III of the program. Participants must be able to join video calls reliably.
  • A WhatsApp Team Channel is used throughout the program to stay connected, share updates, and build camaraderie.
  • During Phase I, participants will receive bi weekly assignments. Access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone is required to complete and submit these assignments.
