2025 Unbroken Spirit Participant Application
Welcome to the Unbroken Spirit program! We’re here to help you embark on a transformative journey. By filling out this application, you’re taking the first step towards a life-changing experience, consisting of three distinct phases:
Phase I: Transforming Veterans Lives through Training
Join us for the first phase of your Unbroken Spirit journey. Our exclusive Unbroken Spirit Pyramid of Success™ will guide you through six virtual seminars, led by fellow Veterans. These sessions focus on strengthening your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We empower you to Believe in a brighter future, learn the necessary skills to Achieve your goals, and Succeed in creating a better life for yourself, your family, and your community.
Phase II: The Healing Power of Nature, Camaraderie and Adventure
Embrace the opportunity to choose from two exceptional programs in Phase II, each designed to strengthen bonds and support your individual needs:
Expedition Program. Join us in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC, where you’ll experience the healing power of nature. We provide a safe and challenging environment for you to connect with your fellow Veterans, put your newly developed skills to the test, and embark on a physically and mentally demanding backpacking expedition along the Appalachian Trail, forging lasting bonds with your comrades.
Adaptive Sports Program. This program is for Veterans with adaptive sports needs. Join fellow Veterans in Asheville, NC, for six, fun-filled and adventurous days that will push you out of your comfort zone while forming deep connections with your peers. Activities include indoor rock climbing, zip-lining, white water kayaking, rafting, and fly fishing with our partners from the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC).
Phase III: Learn, Lead, and Serve
The third phase of our training focuses on building your self-confidence and sense of purpose. You’ll learn to lead effectively as a servant leader. Guided by our principle of “Leave No One Behind,” you’ll be assigned a mentor who will help you become your best self and lead the life you deserve.

Is this right for you?
We do ask you to conduct a self-evaluation to ensure you’re ready for the program’s challenges.
The physical requirements for phase 2 include hiking 22 miles over three days with a 25-30 lb pack in mountainous high elevation terrain. While this is physically demanding, many alumni say the most challenging part of the program is phase 1, which focuses on:
